The Southeast New Mexico Textile Arts Trails will feature at least seventeen different venues in SE New Mexico, not limited to quilt shops, museums, hospitals, banks, hotels, city hall buildings and libraries that will showcase local textile artwork.
SE New Mexico is filled with numerous fiber artists as well as quilting organizations. The Southeast New Mexico Textile Arts Trail brings exposure, promotes and spotlights the artwork of our local fiber artists as well as their studios. We currently have six different nonprofit textile artist organizations that are represented and will benefit from the creation of this trail. These groups include Nimbles Thimbles and the Piecemakers Quilting Association from Hobbs, the Artful Hands Homemaking Club from Lovington, the Zia Quilting and Stitchery Guild and Carlsbad Fiber Arts Guild from Carlsbad and Artesia Quilters Guild from Artesia.
Aside from Carlsbad caverns, SE New Mexico, heavily known for its oil and gas industries has lacked tourism. SE New Mexico needs more attractions to bring travelers to our side of the state. Artesia was recently designated as an arts and cultural district and is working to keep that momentum going. The arts in Lea County and Carlsbad are steadily progressing. The Textile Arts Trail could be the beginning of finding new and innovative ways to make visitors stop and see what is going on in the arts community on our side of the state.

We will also have five different for-profit artist businesses represented in our community trail. The businesses include Got 2 Sew in Hobbs, the Country Store Quilt Shop in Lovington, Martha’s Fabrics in Artesia, Jill’s Fabric & Design and Granny’s Quilt Barn both in Carlsbad. In all, the trail will serve two hundred twenty-six different textile artists and artisans.
